Plastic Culture Exclusive: Offline Interview with Toy Customizer Silvi Tampi

Back in 2009, Lou Belle together with Plastic Culture had an Munny Custom event, and Silvi Tampi with her creation of the Last Samurai came on top. She won the contest and her life is no longer the same again. In February, Plastic Culture invited Silvia Tampi to be one of the artists along with Juliana, and Micelyna to custom 3 inch Dunny. Here is what she came up with:

WHAT ARE THE NAMES OF YOUR CUSTOMIZED DUNNY AND BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THEM.

“First, Bitchy Bunny. To be a Bunny, a girl needed more than just looks. She needs idiocy, too. Second, Gurita Cikeos. We only need one smart brain (+ 8 tentacles) to chaos and sink a big ship or even a country. Third, Termitenator. Although a termite is so small and it does not look dangerous at all, we need a Terminator to destroy them: A Termitenator!”

EACH CUSTOMIZED DESIGNED THAT YOU MAKE SEEMS TO HAVE DIFFERENT VIBE. HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THEM?

“Just feel free to catch any different kind of ideas floating around…..here, there, and everywhere…”

AS A WINNER OF THE MUNNY CUSTOM CONTEST LAST YEAR, HOW DID THAT CHANGE YOUR APPROACH TOWARDS THE WORLD OF CUSTOMIZING TOYS?

“First of all, thank you for all the judges at Munny Contest last year, it was a great contest I’ve ever see. The world of customizing toys is so WIDE & UNLIMITED. There were different kind of age, social level, occupation, gender, etc…and of course different kind of idea & creativity! And Munny unite them all!”

WHAT MATERIAL DO YOU USE OFTEN TO CUSTOMIZED TOYS?

“paperclay, acrylic paint, marker…..and a glass of coffee ”

IF YOU WOULD CHOOSE A STYLE, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR STYLE IS WHEN CUSTOMIZING TOYS?

“It’s hard for me to describe my style. It’s between the balance of color combination and fine details.”

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS?

“Joe Ledbetter, Aya Kato”

DO YOU ALSO HAVE YOUR OWN TOY COLLECTIONS?

“Yup. I start collecting toys since I was in kindergarten, but still can’t get enough of them. LOL”

APART FROM CUSTOMIZING KIDROBOT PRODUCTS, SUCH AS MUNNY AND DUNNY, ARE YOU PLANNING TO CUSTOMIZE MORE TOYS? IF YES, CAN YOU GIVE US A SNEAK PEAK?

“hmm….I’d like to try customizing My Little Pony and Stitch.”

ARE YOU PLANNING TO CREATE YOUR VERY OWN DESIGNER TOYS? CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT?

“YUP, actually I have plan to make my own designer toys since last year, but the design is still in progress, wish me luck ”
