Plastic Culture News: Dayak Munny Came Second For The Best HeadDress Munny

This submission for Munny Munth (via Plastic Culture) has won came second for the best headdress. If I am not wrong, the judge of this category is Mr. Paul Budnitz himself. The creator Kong Andri is an Indonesia designer who bought Munny regularly at Plastic Culture. This piece is called Dayak Munny.

Paul says, “Dayak MUNNY is fantastic. That looks like real wood! He has a bird on his head that provides the feathers for the headdress. I wouldn’t want to meet this cannibal alone down the end of a dark alley at midnight because I’m sure he’d kill and eat me. Wonderful craftsmanship and excellent attitude.”

Great job Andri! We can’t wait to see many of your great works in the future!

Plastic Culture News: Munindi Little Indian Came Third For The Best HeadDress Munny

Another great name in the world of custom toys has came through. Silvia Tampi, the winner of Munny Contest (Indonesia) last year has “broke-the-ceiling” with this amazing feather design on Munindi, the Little Indian. From the previous Munny custom that she has done, it is clear that Silvi is one of the most versatile customizer that Plastic Culture has ever encounter. She has emerged into one of the greats in toy-customizing. We have seen Munindi upclose and personal, and we can tell you this it surely looks ten times better than the actually picture.

Paul added, “To me the reason this MUNNY’s headdress is amazing is that it’s placed on the Little Indian’s head at a cocky angle. I would never think to do that. Look again at the photo. If the headdress were put on straight this would just be another Indian – but placed at an angle, the beautifully carved featherdress turns Munindi into a PISSED OFF Little Indian. Pissed off and kind of jaunty, like all those kids with New Era hat’s you see going home to Brooklyn on the C train. I love it. Great work!”

Plastic Culture is proud to have Silvia Tampi in the same platform as the top artists around the world. A phone call was made to asked Silvi personally about her Munindi. Here is the summary:

How did this Munny come about?

I submitted two Munny V4 for Munny Munth. I was not really happy with the first one, so I started to make Munindi. Munindi is short for Munny Indian. The idea was to make the feathers out of shuttle cock (badminton), but I decided to use clay instead. The process was not easy; many unwanted things happens during the process. In the end though, I was pretty pleased with the results.

Paul praised the angled-feather on Munindi. How long did it take you to finish it?

It took me about 5 days on and off to get the feathers done on time for the Munny Munth submission. I started this Munindi on the 26th. It was quite a rush for me. There a big pylox disaster during the process which slows everything down. At the very last mintue, I was in time to submit Munindi.

What kind of materials or specific tools did you use?

Paper Clay, Pylox (hence the disaster), acrylic paints, and flannel fabric. I also used a drill for the feathers. My specific tools would be coffee and music.

You have customized quite a lot of Munny. What is your signature or trademark that you leave behind?

That would be the face. The shape of the nose, mouth, and the eyes. Unlike other artists, Pronto Pixel and Bowo who has a character, I like to play with different medias. I tend to get bored if I have to stick with one character.

Any last words?

Congratulations to the winner of Munny Munth and shout out to Kong Andri. I love your work!  Let’s meet up!

Plastic Culture News: MOJO by Brotz

We first met Brotz back in 2009 when we had our very first Munny Workshop. He showed off his talents and basically blew everyone away. Brotz became very active in the graffiti scene along with /FlatStreet/Art. There is no description on the illustration that Brotz sent me, but when I get something, I will surely update this post.

The red-rounded-tounge-sticking creature is one of Brotz main character. It saw it first when we have Munny Contest last December in Bandung. I believe more great works will come from Brotz; stay tuned, fellas!

Plastic Culture News: Pico and Wilshire by JLed x TLS

Joe! Joe! Joe! Everybody say, “Joe!” He has surpassed many of his great works in the past. Joe Ledbetter and TLS (The Loyal Subjects) will release Pico and his friend Wilshire. Joe is going pre-historic here, with the sabertooth and mammoth. The name Pico and Wilshire sounds like a street name in West L.A… not so sure why Joe named it like so, but since he resides in LA, I guess there’s where he gets most of his inspiration.
